LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron has become the latest Hollywood celebrity to suffer a burglary following a break-in at the South African stars home last week, police confirmed Monday.
The 32-year-olds house, reportedly in the exclusive Hollywood Hills, was broken into between Thursday and Saturday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles police department said. No further information was made available.
Theron won an Academy Award in 2004 for her portrayal of a serial killer in "Monster" and earned another Oscar nod for "North Country" in 2006.
Some of Los Angeles most famous residents have been targeted by professional burglars this year, with police revealing in July that more than seven million dollars of loot had been stolen in a string of raids.
Police and city authorities said the same gang of thieves was believed to be responsible for as many as 50 robberies carried out in upmarket neighborhoods such as Bel Air and Beverly Hills.
Celebrities whose homes have reportedly been raided include country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as well as former Paramount Pictures chief Sherry Lansing and her Oscar-winning director husband Billy Friedkin.
Other victims included Duran Duran guitarist John Taylor and Los Angeles Clippers basketball player Cuttino Mobley, who had around 500,000 dollars in cash and jewelry stolen from his Bel Air mansion.
