Prince Charles discusses crown-wearing (AP)

LONDON - Prince Charles met with leading Shakespearean actors Friday, handing out awards and discussing the potential pitfalls and difficulties of donning a crown.

Charles, first in line to the British throne, spoke with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company after delivering a keynote speech in Stratford-Upon-Avon, 200 miles north of London.

After watching an extract from "Henry V," Charles compared notes on crown-wearing with Geoffrey Streatfeild, who played the title role in the play.

"He was asking me whether my crown hurt -- which it does because it's tightly wedged on so we can run around," Streatfeild said. "But it's not really gold so it's not very heavy."

Charles also encouraged Elaine Moore -- head of hats and jewelry at the company -- to "keep on going" after presenting her with an award for 20 years of service.

"They have got to be comfortable. Prince Charles doesn't roll on the floor in his crown whereas actors do," said Moore, who has made hundreds of crowns.
