Troubled British singer Winehouse arrested: police (AFP)

LONDON (AFP) - Troubled British singer Amy Winehouse was arrested Tuesday as part of an investigation into perverting the course of justice, police said.

Winehouse, who recently cancelled the rest of a tour after her husband was detained over an assault case, was arrested after reporting to police after reporting to police.

"A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by appointment at an east London police station," a Scotland Yard spokeswoman said.

"She is currently in custody. The arrest is in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice."

Police gave no further details.

Winehouses husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, has been in custody for several weeks on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to an assault case.

Fielder-Civil, 25, is accused of assaulting the landlord of a London pub in June last year and it is alleged he and three other men later tried to bribe the man to drop his allegation and leave the country.

Winehouse is one of British musics brightest stars but was admitted to hospital this year, apparently after bingeing on drugs.

Fresh concerns about her health were raised after she pulled out of her recent tour after performing a handful of shambolic concerts. She blamed her husbands arrest, saying she could not perform "without my Blake."

The singer with the distinctive beehive hairstyle and tattoed arms was nominated recently for six Grammy awards.
