LOS ANGELES - Regis Philbin is taking on more television duties. The host of "Live with Regis and Kelly," who holds the Guinness World Record for the most time spent in front of a TV camera, will host the official Oscar red-carpet show, producers announced Monday.
Dennis Doty, producer of the half-hour arrivals show that airs just before the Academy Awards ceremony, called the 76-year-old Philbin "the perfect guy to serve as host."
"He knows everyone, and everyone loves Regis," Doty said in a statement.
The arrivals show is set to air on ABC at 5 p.m. on Feb. 24 of next year. The 80th Academy Awards are set to be presented beginning at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will also be televised live around the world.
