Rosanne Cash recovers from brain surgery (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash has undergone successful brain surgery to correct a benign condition, and is expected to make a complete recovery, her record label said on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old Grammy-winning musician, the eldest of late country icon Johnny Cashs five children, is resting at her New York home, two weeks after her operation at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, said a statement from Manhattan Records.

She was diagnosed with a Type 1 Chiari malformation, a rare structural defect that affects the part of the brain that controls balance.

The EMI Group-owned label said Cash would return to the recording studio in early 2008 before hitting the road in the spring and finishing a book scheduled for publication in early 2009.

Cash emerged from her fathers giant shadow to carve out a career spanning almost 30 years. She topped the country singles charts 11 times, and won a Grammy in 1985.
