Actor Eddie Murphy weds in Polynesia (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Actor and comedian Eddie Murphy wed film producer Tracey Edmonds in a ceremony in French Polynesia New Years Day, People magazine reported online Wednesday.

About 25 friends and family were on hand for the ceremony at dusk on a private island off Bora Bora, ringing in the new year, the magazine said.

It is the second marriage for Murphy, 46, and for Edmunds, 40, who started their romance last year as Murphy argued over paternity of a baby girl with his former flame, singer Melanie Brown of the Spice Girls. Murphy later acknowledged the girl is his daughter.

He was married for 13 years to model and actress Nicole Mitchell Murphy. They had five children before divorcing in 2006.

Murphy, a beloved former star of the US comedy series "Saturday Night Live," has been scoring on the big screen since 1982 with hits such as "48 Hours," "Beverly Hills Cop," and "Dr. Dolittle."

Last January he won a Golden Globe for his role in "Dreamgirls," for which he was nominated for best supporting actor Oscar honors.
